Sustainability

Reducing Our Footprint

DS Containers is committed to Sustainability. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing process was designed to produce a modernized, two-piece, laminated steel aerosol can. This coil-to-can approach optimizes the use of material and energy to produce lightweight, high quality, recyclable aerosol cans; resulting in a reduced carbon footprint.

Our aerosol cans are made from tin-free steel, coated on both sides with PET (a polyester polymer).

The polymer coating eliminates the need for solvent-based interior lining, thereby significantly reducing any carbon emissions. The finished cans have no welded side seam, which eliminates the need for copper wire during manufacturing.

Most community recycling operations now accept aerosol cans, and we are working with the Steel Recycling Institute to encourage further inclusion in both curbside and drop-off programs.

Lightweighting is one of the best ways to improve the environment and economic efficiency of any packaging product. Our two-piece cans are at least 10% lighter than comparable three-piece aerosol containers.

Overall, we feel we have "right-sized" both our product and our process, and we continue to work with customers and suppliers to better our score.

Less energy, material consumption, and waste in our process

No Semi-Precious Metals

No Semi-Precious Metals

Semi-precious metals (such as copper and tin) are not used in the manufacturing process, whereas they are in traditional three-piece can making

Lighter Cans

Lighter Cans

Our cans are > 10% lighter than our three-piece steel (tinplate) counterparts

Less CO2

Less CO2

The production of steel for our cans emits 4.5 times less CO2 than the production of aluminum

Polymer-Coated Steel
