Less energy, material consumption, and waste in our process Our cans are > 10% lighter than our three-piece steel (tinplate) counterparts The production of steel for our cans emits 4.5 times less CO2 than the production of aluminum 100% recyclable cans with > 50% recycled content Polymer-coated steel eliminates the need for solvent-based linings and coatings; reducing VOC emissions, energy usage, and hazardous wastes Printing that does not use water or alcohol, reducing hazardous wastes Semi-precious metals (such as copper and tin) are not used in the manufacturing process, whereas they are by our competition |
Reducing our Footprints It's easy being green Because we are a relatively new company, we have been able to target sustainability from the very beginning. With our partner, Daiwa Can Company, we first designed a physically different container that optimizes the use of material and energy. Then we built a state-of-the-art plant that uses the cleanest technology and the best production practices. Our cans are made from tin-free steel, coated on both sides with PET (a polyester polymer). At our plant in Batavia, the polymer coating eliminates the need for solvent-based interior lining, thereby significantly reducing any carbon emissions. The finished cans have no welded side seams; this does away with the need for copper or water during manufacturing. The steel we use consists of a minimum of 50% recycled content, and because it is tin-free, it is directly recyclable with no energy-intensive detinning. Most community recycling operations now accept aerosol cans, and we are working with the Steel Recycling Institute to encourage further inclusion in both curbside and drop-off programs. Lightweighting is one of the best ways to improve the environment and economic efficiency of any packaging product. Our two-piece cans are at least 10% lighter than conventional three-piece aerosol containers. Overall, we feel we have "right-sized" both our product and our process, and we continue to work with customers and suppliers to better our score. |
